The Principal's Corner:
As we enter the Thanksgiving period of the year I often think about how many activities are packed into the next couple of months. My family is always trying to sort out when Thanksgiving and the holidays will take place, arrange travel plans, and figure out who has to cook what. I also know it is a time where report cards go out, old sports/activities are ending and new sports/activities are just starting up, conferences in schools, the weather changes, and everything else that occurs around this time of year.
I also think back to my time learning about world cultures, in which I am interested in. I am often brought back to the concept of Guanxi, a Chinese term that refers to the concept that as people, we create networks or connections that are designed to provide support and cooperation. This concept is normally thought about in the business world but can apply to the personal or professional life of everyone as well. We live in a stress-filled world, a hectic world, and when things arise it is important to fall back onto those support systems in place. I think about our students what their individual Guanxi’s look like, a family system, a school system, extended family members, and friends. How those systems function when working together ultimately dictates the level of support that is provided to all.
As we enter the holiday season I know our staff is always very reflective on the relationships they have built with the students and the community. They focus on how we can continue to use the networks and systems to provide assistance for all types of learners. It is an ever-evolving process, one that we enjoy doing tremendously.

Veteran's Day
On a personal note, I wanted to say thank you to all of our current military families and veterans as we enter Veterans Day. My grandfather who served in the military his entire life had a quote above his bed that he made his 40 grandchildren memorize. "True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, the but the urge to serve others at whatever cost." ~ Arthur Ashe
